Today, our class witnessed it's first mock trail in the manner of State vs. Mann. This was one the the most pivotal court cases in the American court system. The premise of the case was about a slave owner who has caught one of his slaves attempting to escape and shot her. Due to the fact slaves were considered property Mann believed he should not be charged with a criminal infraction. The State believed that although slaves were property, they were still human beings and should be treated within reason for compassion. Ultimately, the two teams arguing their points both raised great points on religion and history. The entire class agreed, after the decision, that Mann should be charged for attempted murder and that slavery was an absurd part of history that should have never taken place.
