Plessy V. Ferguson

In the case of Plessy vs. Ferguson, the supreme court found that Mr. Plessy was indeed in the "wrong", for sitting in the white only rail car as a "mixed race man" and, would in turn lead to establishing "Separate but Equal" pro-segregation law and the Jim-Crowe Era. However, after the case was settled Justice Harlan released his dissenting opinion. Although he was vastly outnumbered by his peers, I believed that Harlan's purpose for writing his opinion was to not only voice his personal thoughts on the matter, as well as pave way for future cases to follow on the grounds of the points he laid out. By voicing his concerns on those specific points, it would give opportunity for others to learn from him in order to build a much stronger case. I believe his argument was very well planned out but, it was just in the wrong time. In 1896 the majority of America had no interest in well-being of blacks, if it were to have taken place in 2016, I am sure that the very appeasing society would have very much so wanted to make a more morally right decision and voted in favor of Plessy. I believe that as time progressed and the older generation's views had died off the younger generations of American's wanted to make their own decisions based off their on ideas and little by little Americans became much more tolerant and caring for equality among races.
